The 2024 Summer High School Internship Competition is Now Closed

Competition Overview

As the global inequity in access to medical care, education, and supplies becomes increasingly apparent, we must understand that we can play a role in mitigating this issue. To educate the public regarding health and wellness, we ask that you create a video explaining a healthcare inequity you feel passionate about addressing. Examples of such topics can include healthcare inaccessibility, racial disparities in healthcare, healthcare costs, mental health stigmatization, etc. The entry should be under 1 minute and uploaded to YouTube. The video can take any form, including animations, dramatic reconstructions, or documentaries. Please keep in mind that the goal of this video is to teach and explain complex material understandably, and remember to have fun!

We also ask that you include a one-page writeup explaining 1) what your video is about, including at least three citations for the research you completed on your chosen inequity, and 2) what excites you about Blueprints for Pangaea and how you see yourself contributing to our overall mission.

Final round (June 5th to June 6th): The Blueprints for Pangaea team will select the winning video and invite the participant to be the 2024 Summer Intern (to be announced June 6th).

Prize

The winner of the competition will be selected to be the 2024 Summer Intern at the Blueprints for Pangaea Headquarters located at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The internship will be conducted primarily virtual with some in-person opportunities. Blueprints For Pangaea is a student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that reallocates excess, unused medical supplies from U.S. hospitals to areas in need overseas. Our mission is to minimize domestic inefficiency and mobilize accessible healthcare in emerging communities. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it’s become even more important for medical surplus recovery organizations like ours to assist in times of need.

To date, we have partnered with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), the cabinet of the Prime Minister of Niger, Project C.U.R.E. and others to redistribute more than 85,000+ pounds of medical supplies valued at $4,000,000+ to foreign hospitals. Most recently, we donated $9,000 worth of supplies to Michigan Medicine and Beaumont and 700+ face shields to Southeast Michigan clinics to help with the COVID-19 response. We have been featured in Forbes, Bloomberg, Barron’s, and many other accredited publications. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about global health and aspire to evoke positive worldly change.

As a part-time Intern at the headquarters of Blueprints for Pangaea, located at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor will have the opportunity to spend 5 hours per week during the summer immersing themselves in the organization, as well as networking and mentorship opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for high school students to make a tangible difference in diminishing medical resource inequality while preparing for a future driven by impact.

Internship Terms and Conditions

The internship is an unpaid, part-time opportunity. The internship will require a time commitment of up to five to seven hours per week, leaving the opportunity for interns to pursue summer school, jobs, or other commitments.

The internship will be conducted primarily virtual. However, interns will be provided with the  opportunity to immerse themselves in in-person activities throughout the summer.
