In March 2016, Blueprints For Pangaea’s Ann Arbor chapter completed one of its earliest and most consequential international shipments, delivering lifesaving medical supplies to Centre Hospitalier Urbain d’Agadez in Agadez, Niger. Coordinated in partnership with the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Niger and supported by KG Commodities, the shipment addressed urgent shortages at a government hospital serving one of the country’s most underserved regions. Transported through Transphere, the shipment contained roughly 7,140 pounds of supplies across 85 boxes, valued at more than $265,000. Government documentation later reported nearly 10,000 pounds of materials delivered in total, worth approximately $380,000.
The supplies included high-impact clinical essentials such as 250,000 surgical tubes, 80,000 pairs of gloves, and 50,000 syringes and needles, items that are used daily in emergency care, surgery, obstetrics, and routine treatment. For a hospital relying on aging equipment and strained resources, these materials were immediately transformative. Physicians in Agadez emphasized that this shipment would help lower regional mortality rates and restore the hospital’s capacity to provide safe, consistent medical care.

Hospital leadership expressed deep gratitude for the support, emphasizing how critical the shipment was for both daily operations and long-term patient outcomes. Dr. Chégou Yami Mamadou noted that the high-quality supplies “will help lower mortality in the region of Agadez” and expand future opportunities for care. Mr. Amadia Jega echoed this appreciation, thanking Blueprints For Pangaea for enabling the hospital’s mission and strengthening its ability to function well.
The shipment also garnered a formal letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister of Niger, who highlighted the impact of the delivery and expressed interest in establishing a long-term partnership with Blueprints For Pangaea. Beyond its immediate medical effect, the shipment demonstrated the efficiency of B4P’s operational model. This Niger delivery is a landmark achievement in Blueprints For Pangaea’s international efforts, alongside successful shipments to Ghana and the Dominican Republic, and the organization’s commitment to cost-effective, high-impact global health support.
