The Wayne State University chapter of Blueprints for Pangaea is dedicated to addressing medical supply waste and improving healthcare access both locally and globally. While the chapter’s primary focus is on supporting healthcare organizations across Detroit, it also participates in international efforts to aid underserved communities abroad. Recently, the chapter collaborated with the University of Southern California to facilitate a large-scale shipment of surplus medical supplies to Nigeria. Looking ahead, the team plans to expand its reach by applying for additional grants, hosting a hygiene kit assembly event, and organizing educational initiatives to engage students and raise awareness about medical supply sustainability. The chapter also aims to build new relationships with hospitals and clinics to both source surplus materials and identify communities in need.
Executive Board
Founded in 2017, the Wayne State University chapter currently consists of an executive board of two members, with plans to expand leadership through upcoming elections in Fall 2025. The chapter has approximately 50 registered student members and primarily operates within the Detroit metropolitan area. Among its key initiatives, Wayne State B4P recently partnered with the University of Southern California on a 40-pallet shipment of medical supplies to Nigeria, marking one of its largest global contributions to date. The chapter continues to strengthen its network of local and international collaborators to maximize its impact and efficiency in redistributing medical resources.
Recruitment
The Wayne State B4P chapter will begin its next recruitment cycle during its first General Body Meeting (GBM) in the first half of October . During this meeting, the current board will introduce the upcoming leadership transition as several members prepare to graduate in Winter 2025. Following the GBM, a Google Form will be distributed for board applications, after which candidates will be invited for interviews. Final selections will be made based on applicants’ interests, experience, and interviews to ensure each role is filled by the most qualified and passionate candidates.
