In April 2024, the USC Chapter of Blueprints For Pangaea launched the DrugAID Nigeria Shipment, a semester-long initiative to strengthen healthcare access in one of the world’s most underserved regions. Partnering with DrugAID Africa, the team coordinated the delivery of 1,800 pounds of essential medical supplies, including PPE, surgical instruments, and materials for maternal health, HIV/AIDS treatment, and malaria control, to hospitals and clinics across Nigeria.
Nigeria’s healthcare system faces immense challenges, including high maternal and infant mortality rates, widespread infectious diseases, and limited access to affordable care. More than 85 percent of Nigerians lack health insurance, leaving basic medical care out of reach for millions. The supplies delivered through this initiative help close that gap by equipping healthcare workers with the tools they need to provide safe, effective treatment and prevent avoidable deaths.

Throughout the summer and fall, the USC team worked closely with DrugAID to manage logistics, secure sponsorships, and coordinate shipping through ShiptoNaija, ensuring the supplies arrived safely at the Lagos Port Complex. Once in Nigeria, the shipment was distributed to Massey Children’s Hospital, Alimosho General Hospital, and other facilities serving low-income communities.

This project is more than a single shipment of aid. It represents a sustained effort to build a stronger foundation for healthcare delivery in Nigeria. Blueprints For Pangaea remains dedicated to tracking the impact of these resources and to strengthening future collaborations so that every box can translate into better care.
